Une branche des Boschung s'est installée vers 1731-1732 en Pennsylvanie avant de s'établir définitivement à Shenandoah Valley en Virginie (voir message de Gloria Bushong en bas de page).

On estime à environ 536 foyers Boschung installés en Suisse dont 321 dans le canton de Fribourg, 89 dans le canton de Vaud, 66 dans le canton de Genève et 48 dans le canton de Berne.

Summary
The book of Peter Boschung: Bosson - Boschung (1993), 167 pages, is outstanding, because its author is at the same time an experienced medical doctor, historian and a highly gifted writer. In the first part of this paper, we become acquainted with him, his parents, his wife and his children. The second part deals with his ancestors and reflects in quotations some of his thoughts of general value.

J'ai souhaité vous présenter M. Peter Boschung, médecin, historien et écrivain fribourgeois qui mérite d'être mieux connu. Agé de 80 ans, il a été l'auteur d'un livre fort intéressant sur ses ancêtres, dans lequel il allie ses compétences de généalogiste confirmé à son talent incontestable pour l'écriture.

Boschung vient de l'allemand böschung qui signifie "en talus, en pente". Une autre hypothèse, valable uniquement pour les familles Boschung originaires de Jaun (FR), prétend qu'il pourrait être une germanisation du patronyme romand Bosson, nom d'une autre famille de Jaun (Bellegarde).

The Boschong/Boschung name is an old French Swiss name that is found in the French Canton of Freiburg/Fribourg, Switzerland as early as the 1600s, long before the immigration of the original immigrants John, Nicholas, and Andreas in 1731-32. After leaving Pennsylvania, the Bushong family were among the Swiss that settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Switzerland is the area that everyone should be concentrating on since no records have been found in France or Germany and there are records in Switzerland. The Canton was established in the 1400s and the early records show a Peter and Johann Boschong/Boschung.
